Police should reconsider tracking down stolen phones

Editor,

The way the police is handling cases of stolen phones leaves a lot to be desired. When people’s phones get stolen they go to the nearest police station, thinking they will get a help but in vain.

In many cases the police advise the victims to buy other mobile phones. The reason being that since the money they (the police) would use in recovering the stolen phones is equivalent to the amount of a new one.

Yesterday, I escorted a friend of mine to Remera police station to see if her stolen Blackberry would be recovered only to be told by one police officer that the police no longer had time to follow such minor cases!

The National Police and the various telecoms should work hand in hand to recover stolen phones.
