NEW signing Abbas Rassou scored on his debut yesterday to steer APR into the semi-finals of the Pre-season football tournament at Amahoro stadium.

The striker made no mistake from the penalty spot after a clumsy challenge on Bebeto Lwamba, another new signing.

The 20th minute goal proved the difference against a hard tackling Police side which had crashed Musanze 4-2 in their opening tie on Friday.

Rassou is making a second stint at the military side after re-joining from Morocco’s premier league side Olympique Khouribga.

The versatile forward first joined APR back in 2005 on a two-year contract. During his time at the club, he won five titles; two league titles, Cecafa/Kagame Cup, Lotto Cup and Amahoro Cup.

Yesterday’s result took the league champions atop Group A with four points.

Etincelles stunned everyone when they defeated Mukura and Atraco to storm the semis.

Amagaju qualified from Group C after shocking victories over league heavyweights Marines and Rayon Sport.

In Group D, Electrogaz’s 3-1victory over AS Kigali at Mumena Stadium meant that SC Kiyovu reached the last four. Even after strengthening their side with new signings; Jimmy Gatete (from Rayon Sport) and Manfred Kizito (from Atraco), AS Kigali were still no match for Electrogaz.

Electrogaz’s goals were scored by Mbanyi Wilonge, Isaac Nduwimana and Marcel Irakoze before a late consolation from Kizito.

In yesterday’s other games, Rayon consoled themselves with a 2-0 over Marines while Atraco could only grind out a 2-all draw against 2009 Peace Cup losing finalists Mukura.
