On  Saturday evening, countless families in Rwandan, Kenyan, Ugandan, and Tanzanian living rooms sighed in relief as Rwanda once again became the shining light of hope, talent and musical potential in the Tusker Project Fame academy.

Rwanda’s only surviving contestant in the region’s prime musical competition, got an outstanding boost to his hopes of musical stardom when the academy fans voted overwhelmingly to save him from eviction.

The icing on the cake however was the unexpected appearance of Nairobi-based Burundian artiste Kidumu to support Alpha who last week did his own rendition on Kidumu’s touching Kinya-rwanda track ‘Shamba’.

Kidumu, who attended the show with his wife Hawa, couldn’t hold it anymore, as he burst into joyful tears throughout Alpha’s performance of his song before coming onto the stage to hug him and wish him the best.

The singer who took time to support the fast developing musical prodigy before performing at his own concert in Nairobi said that, “, I see myself in him, I think Alpha is very good.”

Alpha’s path to safety was part of a drama- filled evening which saw one of Kenya’s contestants Debarl failed to win even one vote from fellow contestants and filled the week’s eviction slot, much to the displeasure of the academy audience.

Another Kenyan contestant Nganga who has established himself for his comic personality, took all the fellow contestants votes in a move which will be viewed as the first use of their private dagger of contestant votes to eliminate the best competition in order to assure oneself of an easier sailing to the jackpot.

Alpha’s fans in Rwanda who made an effort to vote massively for him this week will feel vindicated for having helped one of our own to progress in the academy.

With only six contestants, Alpha will have to be on top of his game to avoid probation and improve his chances of winning the jackpot.

His chances will be helped by the fact that the Kenyans and Ugandans, out of the fear of each other will try to eliminate each other from the competition, while Alpha can easily benefit from his strong liaisons with members of both contingents to ensure an easier sailing tot eh final day.
