THE Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) has invited Zambia to take part in this year’s Challenge Cup tournament due in Nairobi from November 28 to December 13.
After hosting Zambia in their final 2010 World/Africa Nations’ Cup qualifier on November 14, Amavubi will again come head to head with the Chipolopolo in the two-week event.
Zambia will be the only guest at the tournament after the Cecafa secretariat declined to include Zimbabwe and Malawi, two sides who had expressed interest to take part.
The Cooper Bullets have made guest appearances since 2007 when they went on to win the trophy.
Joining Zambia in this year’s event is Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, Djibouti, Zanzibar and hosts Kenya.
The event will be jointly hosted in Nairobi and Mumias Complex - on the Kenya-Uganda boarder. A total of 26 matches will be played.
The tournament theme is “Uniting for Peace”.
