I had heard it. Even seen it. Yes, my old man used not to eat certain foods, claiming ulcers. He would say the foods worsen his ulcers and such things!
When I think of it now, at no point did my father mention delicacies such as chicken, stew, nyama choma (roast meat) and such foods. He always whined on and on about the cheap foods.
On Tuesday, this guy visited us and found I had prepared my favourite dish. As we served dinner, the woman whined, that she has ulcers and wouldn’t eat beans. I had to make a quick omulette just for her nagging intestinal bacteria.
My old man also used to whine about beans. He would never eat beans and posho. Now this visitor also... why do all these ulcers patients cite the same food yet some of us can’t do with it?
At the dinner yesterday, this lady said whenever she eats beans, she begins to get heartburn or severe pain radiating throughout the upper portion of the body. She also said she gets a burning sensation in the abdomen above the navel that may feel like hunger pangs.
The visitor has gone. I have decided to make the most of my lifetime by eating more and more beans and posho, lest I also develop ulcers and end up craving tasty dishes I can’t afford.
The good news: my hubby has no ulcers. People, tender for supply of beans are in order!
