The Poets’ Corner: A New Day

Dawn rises and mother Africa raises her veil
Sunlight strikes the fog soaked land
Street cleaners clean, businessmen tie their ties,
Moto drivers don their reflective vests
It’s a new day in the land of a thousand hills
New pains await
New triumphs to be enjoyed
New friends to be made
People go about their lives
But the land barely notices
Content to let the people scurry about, the hills sit
Amused by their presumed importance
This day is but one more chapter in a very long book
Night settles and the page turns, ready for the next day’s chapter to be written.
