Olive oil is known to be one of the best natural remedies for the growth of good hair and skin and overall body health. This is because olive oil is rich in polyphenols which have anti bacterial and anti fungal properties.
“Some of the most effective home remedies for hair involve the use of olive oil as it leaves the hair looking healthier and more manageable,” says skin expert Dr. Beth Muzerwa, CHUK.
Olive oil is not only good for the hair but it also cleans the scalp. Olive oil hair conditioning is apt for curly or very dry hair as it tends to smoothen out frizzy and dry hair but does not leave any build up which is found in other hair conditioning treatments. Many people use olive oil to tame frizzy hair.
Solutions to breaking hair
One of the common remedies for hair growth involves the mixture of one beaten egg in 3/4 cup of olive oil. Apply this mixture to your hair after it has been well shampooed and is still wet. The mixture should be left in the hair for at least 45 minutes before washing it out with a mild shampoo.
Some people do not rely on olive oil alone may mix coconut oil to get dual benefits. Extra virgin olive oil is found to be the most effective as it has the highest levels of vitamin E and mono-unsaturated fatty acids which act as antioxidants for hair growth.
Olive oil is also known to have emollient properties thereby minimizing hair loss and factors causing hair loss such as dandruff.
Olive oil helps with lice
A lesser known fact about olive oil is that it is also effective in tackling the problem of lice without the irritation associated with other commercial hair lice removal products. Additionally, olive oil also improves the elasticity of hair and prevents hair breakage.
