THE Sports Ministry and the local football body, Ferwafa met Amavubi senior players on Tuesday to lay strategies of scratching out a win in Saturday’s World Cup/ Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt.

The Ferwafa CEO Jules Kalisa yesterday hinted that senior players ranging from Amavubi captain Olivier Karekezi, Said Abedi Makasi, Jimmy Gatete and Hamad Ndikumana had a lengthy meeting with officials from the Sports Ministry and Ferwafa.

“We needed to hear from them (senior players), there problems and wishes ahead of Saturday’s game,”
“With a collective effort, we hope that the players will deliver come Saturday,” Kalisa said.

Meanwhile, Muslim players like Saddou, Haruna Niyonzima, Abedi and Ndikumana have been exempted from fasting by the Mufti of Rwanda Sheikh Swalleh Habimana until Saturday’s game.

The Egyptian national team arrived in the country yesterday without central defender Mahmoud Fathallah. Fathallah suffered a ligament rupture and will be unavailable for a period of at least one month. Moatassam Salem is the most likely replacement.

It is also reported that Egypt’s football prince Mohamed Abou-Treika suffered a knee problem during Egypt’s last training session.
