Movie review: Street Court

The Television series Street Court isn’t quite like Judge Judy because the court proceedings are not held in an actual courtroom, rather at the scene of the dispute.

The Television series Street Court isn’t quite like Judge Judy because the court proceedings are not held in an actual courtroom, rather at the scene of the dispute. With the series airing on Star Times’ e Channel on weekends, Judge Mazz (Michael Mazzariello) handles the cases. The most interesting aspect of this show is that the judge goes to the plaintiffs, rather than the other way around - and the cases are real.

I recently watched case number 179, Norman Vs Norman. 77-year- old Robert Norman lent his nephew Thomas Norman $3,600 to buy a car, payments stopped coming yet he had a job but spent his money on vacations and sneakers. Robert told Judge Mazz that Thomas bought over one hundred pairs of sneakers before paying him back.   Robert sued Thomas for $2,600 which he failed to pay back.

But the most interesting bit of this episode was how Judge Mazz confronted Thomas about going on vacation without taking the responsibility to pay back the old man’s loan. He also expressed how he hated solving disputes that involved family members. He said, “Why are we here, this is blood, I don’t like to see the same last name on court papers, I hate it.”

Judge Mazz always ends every case with the quote, “That’s my ruling, that’s it.” Street Court is an exciting watch which teaches society to uphold integrity and its related benefits.
