PEOPLE have become so knowledgeable in matters interior décor.
A friend of mine called me and asked if I could help him redecorate his mother’s country home. Of course I obliged -this is a business opportunity- that I will not let pass me by.
As we were driving to the home, which is located in some village located just a few kilometers from town center; in my mind, I pictured an old village woman who probably does not know much about interior, and who cared less about updating her home, how wrong was I.
Immediately I set my eyes on the lady – I knew I had a tough job ahead because this is one woman who knows exactly how she wants her home to look like. We went down to choosing the theme – until she fell for the rustic theme.
Rustic theme is probably one décor theme that gives a house a unique feeling of vintage and the style that looks as natural as possible. There are a number of elements that need to be put in place to give your house a rustic and country style look.
You should choose colours that are warm and have different tones of wood so that they can match your rustic furniture. The colours should blend well with each other to give a natural look to the room.
Since the whole idea of using rustic décor is to make your house look as natural as possible; then natural colours which include brown, green and rusts should be used here. These colours are earthy, natural and neutral.
In this case, the use of rustic furniture can help you in giving the natural antique look to your house. Depending with one’s pocket-it is not a must to replace the entire furniture in your house to get the rustic look. Adding a few accessories or furniture that will easily add to the rustic decor of your house would suffice.
It is equally important when decorating your home, to use accessories that will reflect your personal interests. You can choose to talk to your carpenter and do a unique bed made of twigs and logs, and a table made from a tree trunk. Alternatively, repaint old furniture that is made of wood to give a rustic feel.
Every décor theme has a number of accessories that you can use to implement the desired look to your house. Quilts have been used for many years to give an antique look to any interior. The use of a large quilt patchwork to cover the bed and cushion covers with quilt work does it for rustic décor.
Those many years ago, quilts were made from animal skin until when designers came up with other materials. Since animals represent trees and forests, these add something to improve on the rustic look.
Old paintings and photo frames with animal drawings add some value to your rustic décor as well. Antlers, animal heads, old clocks, and many more antique accessories can be used as wall hangings.
Any old idea is good for the rustic theme; for example an old keyboard will upgrade your rustic theme if placed in a corner of your living room. Second hand markets have vintage collections of these things and the prices are affordable.
Lighting and Flooring
Lighting is very important in rustic decor. The lighting should give an earthy look that will enhance the entire décor. A lamp with the support of a small wooden trunk can improve the rustic style. Hardwood flooring is the best choice for improving the rustic look. Do not keep them bare; make sure to cover them with area rugs with natural and earthy colors.
When you want to change the theme of your house, remember that it is not necessary to change everything. A few things here and there would suffice and you will have achieved what you want in your décor.
