Poem: TEARS OF A CHILD

TEARS OF A CHILD I will ask questions Because I need answers I need solutions I fear the terrifying terror I fear the horrifying horror

 TEARS OF A CHILD

I will ask questions
Because I need answers
I need solutions
I fear the terrifying terror
I fear the horrifying horror

Papa shall there be a time
When motions shall be acts
Emotions shall be responses
The moon shall beam
And the noon shall burn

Mama shall there be a time
When school shall be a priority
A time when my home work is done by six in the evening
A time when I am at school early
The time when I will wake up and breakfast is on the table

Every morning I wake up at 5 o’clock
Only to get down to my morning chores
Washing dishes and scrubbing the floor, changing the baby
And preparing my young sister for school

At school I get the first lesson started
The teacher punishes me for my late coming
My stomach rumbles and crumbles for
I had no time to eat my meager break fast
I am half sleepy and half attentive for
Burning the mid night candle doing this and that
Now tell me shall there be a time?

The weekend comes with a lot of activities
Bare foot I walk through dew grass
Heading to the corn field to work
I work to pay for my school needs
If not enough I am battered and clobbered
Can someone tell me if there’ll be a time
When I will wake up from this nightmare?

I long for that time
A time when I shall be a girl
A time when I shall be a boy
Respectable, acceptable, likeable and palatable
Please papa, please mama shall there be a time?
