NGORORERO - The District Executive Committee meets today to elect a new Mayor and his deputy in charge of economic affairs.
The former Mayor Cyprian Nsengimana and his deputy Jacques Habimana are on the run following last week’s court ruling which handed both of them 5 and 6 years respectively for embezzlement of public funds.
A top district official said yesterday that work at the district headquarters had stalled and there is need to quickly replace the two convicted former leaders.
“Work here had stalled but we have resolved to bring on board other officials to replace the missing and convicted officials.
The smooth running of district affairs has to go on,” the official who preferred anonymity said.
Meanwhile, police said the hunt for the two officials is still on.
“We are appealing to whoever has information about their whereabouts to come forth and help our operatives as we continue our tireless search in order to bring the culprits to book,” police said.
