HARARE –A 15-year old Rwandan boy living in Zimbabwe as a refugee has appeared in court to answer charges of sodomising a five-year old boy.
The teenager is facing three counts of aggravated indecent assault and appeared in the magistrates’ court on Wednesday.
His identity could not be revealed because he is still a minor.
The boy allegedly sodomised the toddler a number of times, but on account of his age magistrate Daniel Shonhiwa released the teenager into the custody of his mother until trial resumes next month.
But he slapped him with stringent conditions, including reporting to police weekly and not to change residence.
About two thousand Rwandans fled the country after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and have been living in the Southern African country since then.
Most of them are accused of having participated in the Genocide and their indictments have since been issued by prosecution.
Despite assurances by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Zimbabwe that Rwanda is now a safe country for everyone to return, these refugees have deliberately refused to repatriate.
