What to do when mood swings set in

Every woman falls prey of mood swings and irritability at some point in their lives. Mood swings are a condition where a person goes through and conveys a range of emotions within a span of a few hours. Within a short period of time, a woman can move from being very happy to extremely irritable, angry and throwing tantrums all over the place.

Every woman falls prey of mood swings and irritability at some point in their lives. Mood swings are a condition where a person goes through and conveys a range of emotions within a span of a few hours. Within a short period of time, a woman can move from being very happy to extremely irritable, angry and throwing tantrums all over the place.

However this doesn’t mean that mood swings are only a woman thing as they affect men too.

Menstrual cycles pregnancy, menopause and hormonal imbalance are some of the factors that cause mood swings among women. Other causes of mood swings among women include stress at home, work or in their relationships with spouses and other people.

When that awkward moment comes where you just feel angry over something you can’t figure out, don’t condemn yourselves. It is absolutely normal to get moody once in a while however you just have to learn to deal with it.

Whereas some women may seek solace in smoking consumption alcohol, strong coffee and junk food, these will only increase the chances of getting mood swings and feeling irritable.

The remedy for mood swings

It all begins by accepting the situation and knowing that you are faced with this problem and then know that things will get better, maintaning a positive attitude as well.

Jennifer Murekatete 26, a fitness freak, who runs two businesses dealing in baby clothes and a beauty parlor in Nyamirambo, says that engaging in harmless activities that put a smile on her face is a healing balm to the irritability.

“On such days when I am so moody, I always visit the sauna, go for a massage or listen to my favorite music and somehow the mood swings just disappear,”Murekatete said.

She says that light exercises are an ideal mood swing reliever, she urges everywoman to a walk, go swimming or even dancing if it’s among their hobbies.

Music is also one therapy for soothing a stressed person so always have a collection of your favorite ballads.

Mood swings are natural. The next time the mood swings set in, learn to take control over them instead of letting them ruin your day and that of your loved ones.
