Myanmar will export 40,000 tonnes of rice to Africa in early April in a bid to promote direct deal with the continent in agricultural sector, local media reported.

At present, one tonne of Myanmar rice is priced at 335 U.S. dollars, the 7-Days News quoted Myanmar Rice Industry Association (MRIA) as saying.

According to the report, Myanmar exported over 530,000 tonnes of rice in the first 10 months (April-January) of the fiscal year 2011-12.

Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding was signed between MRIA and the Perum BULOG (Indonesia National Food and Logistics Agency) in January on exporting 200,000 tonnes of Myanmar rice in a year and on exploration of more opportunities for technical cooperation especially in the areas of rural and agricultural sector.
