What made Benji change his bad ways

Benji and his older brother Mark were the only kids their parents had. Mark was always so understanding, obedient and courteous. Benji however was always rude and intolerant.

Benji and his older brother Mark were the only kids their parents had. Mark was always so understanding, obedient and courteous. Benji however was always rude and intolerant.

One day Benji returned home late from the football field and even though he had asked for his mum’s permission to go and play soccer, coming back home took longer than anticipated and he accepted his mistake. He even knew his punishment all too well and that was spending the rest of the evening in his room.

But on this particular day, his grandfather visit was expected and Ben loved playing chess with him. ‘Oh how I’m going to miss playing with grandpa.’ He thought to himself. While he was grieving, his elder brother entered, “Benji go and join the grandfather” his brother said, “What? Are you serious, did Mum and Dad forgive me?” Benji asked excitedly.

No, but I know how you like playing chess with him, so I’m going to do the punishment for you; I will spend the evening in my room, so that you can be free to go and play with grandfather. “This is a joke, right?” asked Benji.

But Mark was serious. Benji didn’t believe him and remained in his room. Hours later when Grandfather was leaving, he came to Ben’s room to say goodbye. “Why didn’t you come to play chess with me today?” he asked.

“Well I was told to stay in my room the whole evening as a punishment” said Benji. “But Ben took your place, he is even still in his room right now!” grandfather informed the now wide eyed Benji.

“Really? I’m so sorry I didn’t believe him. After all the bad things I have done to him; I couldn’t imagine him giving up his Sunday evening for me.

Benji hurried off to his brother’s room, hugged him with tears falling down his cheeks, “I’m sorry I have been a bad brother. But I promise from today I’m going to be good.” he said tearfully. He also went to his parents and apologized to them. Since that day, Benji became the sweetest child in the whole of his village.
