A boy called Mushime Fisi was recently retrieved from a pit latrine he fell in while chasing after a ball. Mushime was playing football and followed a ball that had gone into a nearby bush.

He found himself in a four feet pit latrine. He was seriously injured because the pit contained many stones in it. Right now, he is in Mugonero hospital.

Earlier an older boy had tried to stop Mushime from going to the bush, telling him that there was a pit, he would not listen. His reply was that he would be able to jump over the pit in order to get the ball.

Both Mushime’s parents had gone out to drink at a nearby place called Chyumbati. And at home, he was his two year old brother.

A Good Samaritan was able to use a ladder to take Mushime out of the pit and take him to hospital directly. The doctor says that if he survives, he may not be able to walk again.

Yes, playing is good but we should avoid taking risks. We should not play in the bush. We should avoid playing in the road as well as climbing trees.

We should also avoid sharp instruments like knives, bottles, razor blades because they can harm us.
