Fifteen rain harvesting tanks have been constructed in 15 schools in the Nyagatare District. This was done by the Kagera Transboundary Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Project (TIWRMD) in an effort to deal with the water scarcity problem.

The first tank was constructed at Rurenge Primary School, by officials of TIWRMD. Since water is life, the tanks will store rain water so that school children can wash their hands. The water will promote cleanliness and body hygiene.
