Defending champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) have extended their lead in the national women volleyball league after beating IPRC Kigali 3-0 on Sunday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

RRA dominated the game, defeating the Kicukiro-based rivals in three straight sets 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14.

Meanwhile, their opponents and close rivals APR did not play over the weekend after their matches against St Joseph, St Aloys and Ruhango were postponed to next weekend. All players of St Joseph, St Aloys and Ruhango are currently doing their end of term exams.

After eight games, RRA is leading the table with 21 points, five points ahead of APR who are in the second spot.

RRA have now turned their focus to the forthcoming 2017 Africa Volleyball Club Championships, which will be staged in Tunisia, Kelibia city from April 5-18.

Last year, for the first time ever, RRA reached the semi-final and went on to finish in the fourth place, the best performance ever by a Rwandan women volleyball team.

This year, RRA won the Emmanuel Kayumba memorial tournament while last season they dominated the local trophies after winning the national league title, Carre d’As, and Alphonse Rutsindura memorial tournament. They have also lost in the final at two international events including Genocide Memorial Tournament and KAVC Memorial Tournament.
