Residents of Musanze District have been cautioned against covering up wrong elements who may pose a security threat in the area. The Mayor of Musanze, Jean Claude Musabyimana made the call on Monday during a community security meeting held in Busogo Sector and attended by about 3000 residents. Musabyimana said any crime or unlawful act, however minor it appears, has its impact on the people’s well-being and the country in general. “We should all be policing agents; under community policing, everyone is empowered to report and fight a crime and all it requires is for all of you to share information with police on anything suspicious or people intending or committing a crime,” Musabyimana told the residents. He urged them to strengthen their community night patrols, break silence on anyone they suspect to be involved in criminal activities, regardless of who they are or the relationship. Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Musanze urged residents to embrace neighborhood watch. IP Ntiyamira pointed out that crimes like drug abuse are still common in the district, which requires joint efforts to identify the suppliers as means to break the supply chain. He commended their role in community policing, but added that there’s still need to strengthen the existing partnership to narrow the gap that criminals take advantage of.
