Amb Kavaruganda presents credentials to Singapore president

The newly-appointed Rwandan High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore, Guillaume Kavaruganda, presented his Letter of Credence to the President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam, yesterday. This was during a ceremony at the main office of the President, the Istana. Amb Kavaruganda was accompanied by his spouse along with the commercial attaché of the High Commission, Lucas Murenzi. In his discussion with President Tony Tan, the two highlighted the good political cooperation, as well as the improving trade, investment and tourism exchange between the two countries, according to a statement from the High Commission. “President Tony Tan noted that the good political relations and high level visits over the years played an important role in increasing trade, tourism and investments between the two countries,” it added. With an area of 718km2, Singapore is almost forty times smaller than Rwanda and its population of 5.5 million people is mainly comprised of Chinese, Indians, Malays and Euro-Asians. Besides English, Singapore also recognises Chinese, Indian and Malay as official languages. Amb Kavaruganda is Rwanda’s second high commissioner to Singapore since 2008. As a bilateral-arrangement, Rwandans do not need to pre-apply for entry Visa to Singapore for stays not exceeding thirty days. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
