Editor, RE: “Genocide denial will always remain a futile attempt” (The New Times, July 24). The common thread between the BBC’s inflammatory documentary tarnishing Rwanda, Gen. Karenzi Karake’s arrest, and now the scandal of ITV interviewing Jean Kambanda, the Genocide prime minister, is that it is obvious that there is a deliberate campaign towards destabilizing Rwanda at a crucial stage in our development. One old strategy of neo-colonialism is to discredit progressive African leadership internationally, to destabilize the country locally and regionally, and to eventually topple the leadership and effect regime change. Knowing this, the challenge is on Rwanda’s leadership and citizens to craft an effective strategy to counter such activities. Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and many other countries have faced such challenges and we should learn from them about national resistance. In conclusion, let’s brace ourselves for much more attacks on the road to the 2017 election, and ensure that we are ideologically firm as we face off with these aggressors. Inkotanyi
