Northern Corridor must tackle crises head on

Editor, The primary focus of the Northern Corridor should be ensuring national security amongst the member countries to create an environment that allows free and fair elections and the implementation of developmental plans agreed upon among the partner states. The failure to find a solution for the current political situation in Burundi by the regional leaders of the Northern Corridor is a clear indication that there is a need to institute an independent decision making panel within the member countries of the Northern Corridor that will always assemble to find an immediate fair solution to political crises without the influence of the heads of state of the member countries. Separation of powers in making key decisions on such issues as unconstitutional amendments of national constitutions as a way of one leader trying to keep themselves in power should be made independently since the leaders will always be harbouring the same motives and hence not ready to vote their counterparts out when an immediate solution is needed to protect the population. While the world was blamed for not helping to stop the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the world will blame the heads of the state from the countries of the Northern Corridor for failing to find an immediate solution to the current political situation in Burundi.
