Rayon will not sign local players for more than Rwf5m

National Football League giants Rayon Sports will not buy any local player for more than Rwf5m next season, according to the club Spokesperson, Emmanuel Aimee Niyonsabye. In an exclusive interview with Times Sport on Tuesday, Niyonsabye revealed that the Nyanza-based outfit will use a budget amounting to Rwf369.7 million next season, which gets underway in September. “We have agreed that the club will not buy a local player for Rwf5m, but there are special cases for the players from outside—if the player in question is good enough and would bring quality to the team, then we could spend above Rwf5m,” Niyonsabye explained. To date, Rayon Sports’ most expensive signing was striker Bokota Labama, who cost US$20.000 (approx Rwf14m) from DC Motema Pembe of RDC while for this season, the Blues spent Rwf10m on striker Jerome Sina from Congolese club Virunga. Other star players like Burundi international Cedric Amiss cost Rwf10 million while his compatriot Pierrot Kwizera joined Rayon Sports for US$9000 (about Rwf6.3m) from Tanzanian giants Simba SC in January. According to Niyonsabye, Rayon Sports, who finished in a disappointing 5th position in the league, will spend Rwf61.5m on new players as well as extending contracts of some of the players. If the club keeps Jean Baptist Kayiranga as head coach, he will earn a monthly salary Rwf1.5m minus bonuses, but that amount would increase in case they bring in a foreign coach, while for the average monthly salary for player will be Rwf300, 000.
