Cycling: Team Rwanda's Uwizeyimana recuperating

Team Rwanda rider Bonaventure Uwizeyimana will soon be discharged from King Faisal Hospital, Kigali following his quick recovery from a head injury that he suffered a week ago when he fell down after knocking a pedestrian on the road from Muhanga to Musanze. Uwizeyimana has been able to eat food and drink comfortably in the past two days, an improvement his caretaker and Team Rwanda masseur Obed Ruvogera has described as a big step towards his recovery. When Times Sport visited Uwizeyimana at King Faisal hospital, the 22-year-old confirmed his recuperation and said, “I feel much better now. I have been eating three meals a day and fruits like bananas and apples have been helpful.” Uwizeyimana was descending downhill alongside his teammates during a training session when the pedestrian attempted to cross the road, hesitated and went back to the roadside before deciding to cross the road just as Uwizeyimana was approaching and the latter knocked him and fell off the bike, hitting his head first on the road side in a field of stones. Uwizeyimana was transferred to King Faisal hospital in Kigali for a Computerized Tomography (CT) scan which indicated no bleeding in his brain, no skull fracture and no spinal damage. Uwizeyimana is a full-time rider with Team Rwanda Cycling and makes up the core of the national side. Last year, he became the first African to win a stage at the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo in Gabon, arguably the biggest cycling event on the African continent. This year he was the best U-23 rider beating riders from Europe and the entire African continent.
