Zoe Saldana is reportedly attached to play Nina Simone in a new biopic.

Mary J Blige was previously signed to star in the film, but according to The Grid she has been replaced by ‘Star Trek’ actress Saldana.

Entitled Nina, the biopic will apparently focus on Simone’s relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, which began fairly late in the singer’s life.

Some reports have suggested that this relationship will be used only as a framing device, with the rest of Simone’s life told through a flashback structure.

Nina will be scripted by ‘The Brave One’ writer Cynthia Mort, and is based on Simone’s 1992 autobiography I Put a Spell on You.
