Junior wasps lose to Mali, eliminated
African Youth Qualifiers
Saturday
Mali 3-0 Rwanda (agg. 4-2)
Rwanda’s U-20 team crashed out of the Africa Youth Championship qualifying campaign after losing 3-0 to Mali in the return leg match played last evening in Bamako.
The junior wasps, who narrowly won the first leg 2-1 in Kigali a fortnight ago, only needed a draw to qualify to the third and final round, but the 3-0 defeat means it’s the end of the road for Richard Tardy’s young troops.
All Mali’s goals were scored in the second half, and now the West African team will face Zambia, who qualified without kicking a ball after the late withdrawal of Lesotho due to financial constraints.
Seven qualifying teams will join hosts Algeria for the 2013 AYC finals.
