Swimmer Alphonsine Agahozo became the third Rwandan athlete to be knocked out of the London Olympic Games despite finishing third in the 50-metre freestyle in the preliminary round yesterday at the Aquatics centre.
On her Olympic debut, Agahozo clocked 30:72 to finish third in heat three behind O’Reilly Karin from Antigua and Barbuda, who clocked 30.01 and Hemton Vitiny from Cambodia who clocked 30.44 to finish first and second respectively.
In the overall rankings, Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands led a pack of sixteen swimmers into the semi final of the 50-metre freestyle in 24.51 as Agahozo finished in 58th position.
Apart from Agahozo, no other African qualified for the semi final round.
Rwanda will now rely on mountain biker Adrien Niyonshuti, Jean Pierre Mvuyekure (Marathon), Robert Kajuga (10,000m) and Claudette Mukasakindi (Marathon) for any medal hopes.

Really does Rwanda expect a medal in the swimming pool with such pathetic qualifying time? Really? Why not try other non traditional sports like archery, shooting or fencing? The Rwanda Olympic Committee is such a waste of space!

I'm not criticising the girl Agahozo by the way. I'm critical of the Rwanda Olympic Committee who have failed the country again by just turning up to make the numbers with their journey men! We need results. No we don't need results, we DEMAND results. We pay them with our tax people!
