Rwanda flag to be raised at Olympic Village today
RWANDA is among several National Olympic Committees from Africa to be welcomed into the Athletes’ Village today ahead of the London Olympic Games which start on Friday.
The ceremony is scheduled today at 17.00 hours with the country’s national flag set to be hoisted to the tunes of national anthem along with the Olympic flag featuring the five rings.
Rwanda Team’s Chef de Mission Serge Mwambali yesterday said, “The Rwandan contingent will be officially welcomed and ushered into the London Olympics’ Games Village in a colourful ceremony.”
According to Mwambali, the ceremony will be presided over by the Games Village Mayor Charles Allan. The Rwandan contingent will be comprised of athletes and officials as well as officials from the Rwanda High Commission to the UK led by High Commissioner Ernest Rwamucyo.
Rwanda is represented by two swimmers Jackson Niyomugabo, Alphonsine Agahozo, three runners; Claudette Mukasakindi, Jean Mvuyekure, Robert Kajuga and judo athlete Yannick Uwase Sekamana and cyclist Adrien Niyonshuti.
Several ceremonies have taken place every day in the days leading up to the Games for up to four teams at a time providing the best welcome to London 2012.
