Police close to signing Atletico’s Kavumbagu
WITH Meddie Kagere yet to commit to a new contract with Police FC, the law and order enforcers side has confirmed it has agreed terms with Olympic Atletico forward Didier Kavumbagu as a possible replacement for the Amavubi striker.
Police chairman Alphonse Katerebe said on Monday the club have already concluded talks with the Burundian international, who will sign a two-year contract after the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup Club Championships in Dar es Salaam.
“Kavumbagu was our main transfer target last season but we failed to agree terms with his club. We have since kept in touch and I’m happy that our talks are going on smoothly this time round,” revealed Katarebe.
He added, “I believe he will sign for us as soon as the Kagame Cup ends because right now he is focused on helping Atletico win the championship.”
Last Saturday, Kavumbagu dominated headlines after powering his club to a shocking 2-0 victory over defending champions Young Africans in Group C.
Police finished second in the Primus national football league and were runners-up to APR in the MTN Peace Cup competition as they sealed their place of representing Rwanda at next year’s CAF Orange Confederation Cup.
Katarebe admitted that although the club wants to have a core of their team composed of Rwandan players next season, it will not stop them from adding a few quality foreign players as they prepare for what will be their toughest season ever.
