A Genocide fugitive, Thadee Kwitonda, was arrested yesterday morning near the Belgian Embassy in Kampala.

According to Ugandan press, Kwitonda was captured after a 30-minute operation conducted by a Ugandan Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate (CIID) team.

The development came as a surprise to Rwandan authorities who thought Kwitonda was on Belgian soil, according to prosecution.

“This is a big surprise because we have been working with the Belgian authorities for the last two years to arrest and extradite Kwitonda. This is good news for justice, but we will wait for confirmation from our Ugandan neighbours. As for now, we have not yet received information about the development from the Ugandan authorities,” John Bosco Siboyintore, the Head of Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit, said yesterday.

According to Ugandan press, Kwitonda had reportedly denounced his Rwandan nationality opting for Belgian citizenship and was reportedly attached to the Belgium Embassy in Kampala.

Are you kidding? Do I understand correctly that this genocide fugitive was actually working for the Belgium Embassy in Kampala? Now that is as big an insult to the survivors as all the genocidal priests who continue to preach across Europe under the protection of the pope! Did the Belgium Embassy not do a background check on Kwitonda before they hired him? And how incredibly bold of him to take a position in Kampala! He obviously thought he was very well-protected by his position. And that proves my point that these criminals can run and they can hide...but not forever!
