The Queen’s greatest hits
THE Queen’s favourite songs are a Blues number and a show tune, it has been revealed.
Top of the Royal pops are the Cole Porter classic Miss Otis Regrets, and People Will Say We’re in Love from Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma!
Andrew Lloyd Webber included the two songs in an evening’s entertainment for Her Majesty at his home to celebrate her birthday earlier this year.
It came after he produced the Diamond Jubilee theme Sing. He told Radio Times: “We did the cake and there was a small cabaret.
“I was tipped off by someone close to her what some of her favourite songs are, so we put them in.”
“Miss Otis Regrets” by Cole Porter tells of a society lady who shoots an ex and is lynched by a mob. After she dies, her servant tells her friends: “Miss Otis regrets she’s unable to lunch today.”
“People Will Say We’re in Love” is from the Rodgers and Hammerstein show Oklahoma!
It premiered on Broadway in 1943, when the Queen was 17 — four years after she met Prince Philip and four before they wed.
The song tells of a couple who are secretly in love.
