NYAMAGABE – Police in Nyamagabe District have arrested a man who last Saturday allegedly posed as a Chief Inspector of Police (CIP).

The man (name withheld), reportedly a third year law student at the National University of Rwanda, is currently detained at Gasaka Police Station as investigations go on.

It is alleged that he posed as a traffic police officer at a Primus Guma Guma SuperStar (PGGSS) road show that was staged in Nyamagabe town during the weekend.

A police source at Gasaka station told The New Times that the suspect did not solicit for any money.

“We are yet to know his motives but we suspect that by posing as a high-ranking officer he might have wanted to use the influence to get some favours from the event organisers,” the source said.

According to Police, the “fake policeman” was arrested after a tip-off from residents.

Wearing a blue t-shirt, a pair of dirty jeans and sandals, the suspect declined to comment on the alleged crime saying he was “too drunk” when he committed it.

“I can’t remember what happened,” he said.

Late last month, Police in the same district arrested a 28 year-old man for masquerading as an employee of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG).

The suspect allegedly conned several relatives of prisoners at Gikongoro Prison seeking Rwf200, 000 to help release the prisoners.
