In our Sunday Magazine today, we travel with you through the life of an up coming local musician David Nyasha. He is young, talented and willing to learn.

In no particular order, these are the top Smart phone makers, Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Blackberry and HTC. Of late, Blackberry has been sliding from the top position which it once dominated. This is due in part to bad decision making on the part of management, and also the gradual shift of customers from the once dominant Blackberry platform to Google’s Android and Apple’s IOS operating systems.

My days as a new employee in town have not stopped me from pursuing other important matters. These are matters that tend to make the old men of Mutara happy. They tend to smile when they receive news that one of their Kigali sons would be introducing a fiancée over the weekend.

Oh that time of the month. No, I am not talking about women’s periods. I mean the time when you are expecting your salary to be sent to your account and to be notified by a text message from your bank. If you know the time I am talking about, then I am sure you know about the lousy messages that you receive and for a moment you think they are from the bank, only to discover that they are from Rwanda Police asking you to go for a driving test if you had registered or just from MTN telling you about a new offer as if you can use it to pay your rent. Don’t you just hate the people who send such messages?

 Many years ago, while in Secondary school, I happened to read a Novel by “Mine Boy” by one Abraham Peters, this guy was an African writer and I read another one called “Cry For the  Beloved Country”  by Alan Parton (if my mind is not playing me games!

And so there you are, mourning your meagre earnings: kazi nyingi, mshahara mchache –‘overworked and underpaid’ in Kiswahili. Which Kiswahili, being of Tanzania, may not be understood by many, who are more used to the incorrect version: kazi mingi, mshara kidogo.

While I attended one of the frequent house-parties which are thrown by people who have just shifted from their parent’s home that usually have more security than “Alcatraz”, I couldn’t help but shudder at a man who was being tongue-lashed by a date he had carried along.
