PM awarded honorary doctorate at US varsity
Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi was recently conferred with an honorary doctorate in Law from California Baptist University.
This was during the university’s graduation ceremony involving about 1,000 graduands, where he also gave an annual commencement address.
According to a statement sent to The New Times, the Premier in his acceptance speech noted that his visit underscored the strong bond between his nation and the United States as well as the institution’s leadership.
“Rwanda’s sons and daughters attending CBU under the Presidential Scholarship programme have, over the last four years, carried out the unique responsibility of being Rwanda’s first ambassadors to CBU,” he said.
He further stressed Rwanda’s commitment to invest in Education in order to create knowledge and skills driven Rwandan society and economy.
The ceremony at CBU took place on the campus’ grounds, where the president of CBU, Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, welcomed the 786 undergraduates along with 281 graduates.
Addressing the gathering, Adrian McDaniel, educator and father of one of the graduating students, Jordan McDaniel, credited the success of the university to “a remarkable president.”
“The return of investment is something you will greatly cherish from perseverance through four years of college,” McDaniel said.
In a related development, the Premier, accompanied by Rwandan Ambassador to the U.S, James Kimonyo, met the Rwandan student community of California Baptist University, after the graduation ceremony.
In his address to the students, Habumuremyi congratulated the Rwandan 12 granduands with each one offered a Rwanda national flag for being good ambassadors of the country at CBU.
