Ugandan music star launches mobile phone brand
UGANDA’S Pop star, Jose Chameleon, has launched his own branded range of mobile phones under the brand Chameleon Mobile.
The launch, a cocktail party, was held at Guvnor, last week, and being a showbiz juggernaut he is in Uganda, Chameleon’s event attracted a host of celebrities and top telecom marketers.
The phones went on market immediately after the launch in Guvnor and tens of them were sold on the night with several others being given away to selected guests. The likes of Charlie Lubega and Bobi Wine each scooped a free Chameleon Mobile phone and they inserted their simcards immediately to have a feel of the Shs60,000-phone.
Chameleon will make use of his elder brother, Humphrey Mayanja’s shop on Ivory Plaza as the service centre for the phones. The shop has since been renamed Free-Com Uganda Limited.
Apparently, thousands of phone users in Uganda will want to own the phone for several reasons. Especially because it is affordable and it carries the name of their idol; the very reason many telecom companies have been in touch with Chameleon trying to lure him into a business partnership.
