Binagwaho calls for better hygiene in Kicukiro
The Minister of Health, Dr Agnes Binagwaho, Wednesday called on residents of Sakirwa Cell, Kicukiro District, to improve on their sanitation to avoid diseases caused by poor hygiene.
The call was made following her surprise visit to inspect the state of hygiene and sanitation. The premises of the Health Ministry are also located in this same area.
Among the places she inspected, included a pork joint named the Bar Akabenzi, a coffee factory, a school, carpentry workshop, a home and also met with the Community Health Workers (CHW) from Kicukiro and Gatenga.
She called upon all the people residing in all places she visited to ensure that they have clean water, toilets, drink boiled water and prepare food in clean environment.
After her inspection, the Minister took time to discuss with over 70 CHWs., Serafina Kayitesi, said shortage of ambulances as one of the issues faced in the area.
“Sometimes we call for ambulances when they aren’t available or are busy yet a patient is in terrible state. This is quite a challenge for us since we are left stranded yet we are expected to help,” she complained.
