Powerful Oselu to inspire APR
SEASONED power attacker Bernard Oselu will be at the forefront of APR volleyball club’s ambitions as they start their campaign at the 28th edition of the Men’s Africa club champions’ in Tunis, Tunisia due April 21-30.
Oselu, who is currently the most experienced player on the side, admitted that his role is to guide the young players and bring out the best in them at this tournament and this should be fuelled by the pool they will be allocated after today’s draws in Tunis.
The Kenyan veteran, who played in the 1999 All Africa Games in South Africa, deems this tournament as a reinforcement of his ability on a volleyball court and he will be returning to Tunis 15 years after playing in the 1997 Africa Olympic qualifiers.
His former teammate at the All Africa Games in South Africa and now the Rwanda national team coach Paul Bitok said, “This current APR side has young players who want to express themselves and that combination with Oselu will produce great results in Tunisia.”
APR’s head coach Sammy Mulinge is reaping the fruits of a national team programme that saw the U-21 side attend a three-month and a half training camp in Brazil last year where he proudly fielded the quartet of Fred Musoni, Didier Kitoko, Placide Sibomana and new signing from Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) Aimable Mutuyimana.
According to Mulinge, the enthusiastic youthful team has since recovered from the loss of sensational Lawrence Yakan (Etoile Sportive Seif) and James Ontera to a Japanese outfit where they are playing at a semi-professional level.
Bitok who coached APR before he was called to the national side further added that the addition of Kenyan all rounder Silas Makiso will make this army side a hard nut to crack.
Team List: Alexis Nkuranga (Captain), Fred Musoni, Aimable Mutuyimana, Athanase Ngirimana, Silas Makiso, Mathieu Rwanyonga, Bosco Mutabazo, Bernard Oselu, Eric Francois Rukundo Mwizere, Theodore Muyango, Didier Kitoko, Placide Sibomana.
