Mukabaramba upbeat on VUP schemes

Gatsibo-The State Minister in the Ministry of Local government, Alvera Mukabaramba, has hailed the impact made by Vision 2020 Umurenge Programme (VUP) in Gatsibo District.
Speaking to residents after touring various VUP activities in the district, the minister said that for such programmes to be successful, concerted efforts between local leaders and residents were vital.
“There is visible progress made as a result of VUP in the district. But this should be fuelled by continued collaboration between local leaders and residents,” she said.
Accompanied by district officials, Mukabaramba inspected distribution of goats and mattresses to vulnerable residents in Murambi Sector as part of the programme.
In a separate interview, the minister stressed that the main reason of her visit was to thoroughly inspect and evaluate VUP activities in the district.
“I came to this district to assess whether the little funds given to residents under VUP programme are well allocated and productive to citizens. But the progress made so far is impressive,” she said.
The Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Esperance Uwimpuhwe, said that tremendous improvement had been registered in the lives of beneficiaries who are under VUP’s ‘direct support’ programme.
VUP programme operates in Kiziguro, Gasange, Kageyo and Murambi sectors in the district.
