A trendy woman’s ‘must-have’ accessory
Looking elegant and turning heads is a common natural desire for any sophisticated woman- so the trendy high waist belt will definitely make you stand out.
A high waist belt adds style, colour, glamour and class to an outfit. These days, women use belts not just to adorn themselves, but also to create a fashion statement that flatters them.
“A high-waist belt defines the fashion statement of a woman and represents style, as well as personality,” Anita Umutoni, an upcoming model, said.
To look elegant, you will want to match the belt colour to what is worn underneath - a bright coloured wide belt on a darker dress, on a large figure can add the illusion of width you do not want however for example a strapless black dress adding a wide pink belt will look fabulous.
Also if you have a straighter body shape you may want the curves to come out- a brighter colour belt will give you that. If coordinated perfectly, a belt will add a whole new dimension to your style.
“High waist belts are fashionable but one needs to put attention on the size of the belt and the colour,” local fashion designer, Colombe Ituze Ndutiye, noted.
“The colour of the belt should match the shoes and its better when it has a different colour from the outfit. Its size must be big only if the outfit is well-fitting. Small belts are adopted when the outfit is well fitting,” she added.
Using belts as a simple fashion accessory has become increasingly popular today. Instead of being worn at the hips, belts are now commonly worn on the upper part of the waist. And sash belts are worn to emphasize the smallest part of the woman’s body - the area of the waist above the bellybutton.
“I know that it’s not easy for everyone woman to wear a high waist belt, but honestly, looking good is all about bringing out the best in your appearance,” Sonia Uwamahoro, resident of Kigali, said.
Exaggeration is unacceptable when it comes to fashion. For example, the belt being the main focus on your attire, do not mix it with other accessories that will outshine it. Keep everything else simple – only use belts to transform the look of your outfits not to destroy everything.
Wear a belt according to your waistline; for women with longer waistlines, it is better to go for a skinny belt that contrasts the top, as well as complement the bottom.
