Fitidis chases Ugandan title
FORMER national rally champion Christakis Fitidis and Elefterois Mitraros will compete in the 2012 FIA African Rally Championship under a Ugandan competition license.
While the pair could not be reached for comment yesterday, the switch could be attributed to tougher competition in the Uganda national rally championship.
The pair, which has been drafted into this weekend’s Pine Ridge Mbarara Rally, expects stiff competition from Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge, the first female Ugandan national champion.
Fitidis will be flagged off ninth while Mitraros takes off in 13th place in the opening round which has attracted 40 entrants. Kenyan Javit Singh in a Golf GTI will hit the road fifth.
Last year, Fitidis finished second in the KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, to eventually claim the KCB East African Rally Challenge title.
Scrutineering is planned for 1pm tomorrow in Masaka ahead of the super special stage at the newly constructed Pine Ridge double track circuit on Saturday.
After the super special stage, cars will head to Lake View Hotel in Mbarara where they will be flagged off on Sunday morning covering five sections in Bushenyi, Shema and Mbarara districts.
