Masaka residents welcome road construction
Residents of Masaka Sector, Kicukiro District, expressed joy over construction works that began on a new road saying it would usher in development to their area.
Construction works began last week through a donation from the Chinese government, under which, 6.3 kilometres of the road will be levelled with tarmac, all the way from Inyange Industries, Masaka Hospital to Kabuga Centre.
“We are very glad that the government has decided to tarmac it; I am optimistic that investors will turn to our area now that it will be more accessible.” Ezekiel Mugiraneza, a resident, said yesterday
Florence Tushime, a shopkeeper along the road, said: “The Prime Minister visited this area and told us that the road would be constructed. We are glad that he was true to his word”.
The Mayor of Kicukiro District, Paul Jules Ndamage, said construction of the road is the initial plan that will enable the layout of the district’s Master Plan.
“This is an important activity, considering that major investments, such as a university and hospital, are planned to be implemented in the area,” Ndamage said.
