CMA quiz to foster regional integration
Several students from tertiary institutions, who emerged winners of essay and oral competitions on financial markets organised by Capital Markets Authority (CMA), will today, be rewarded with assorted prizes at a function to take place at Serena Hotel Kigali.
The contest that is aimed at creating awareness on financial markets attracted over 200 students from 15 higher learning institutions countrywide.
According to Robert Mathu, the Executive Director of CMA, the awards include shares in listed companies on Rwanda Stock Exchange, Post Graduate study programmes and tuition fees among others.
“This is part of a nation-wide sensitisation campaign to enable a big population of Rwandans to get to understand the importance of saving through capital markets,” explained Mathu.
School of Finance and Banking emerged top followed by the Catholic University of Rwanda. National University of Rwanda came third.
The first of its kind in Rwanda, the competition was sponsored by various institutions including the Ministry of the East African Community, Rwanda Development Board, National Bank of Rwanda, Rwanda Commercial Bank and Rwanda Development Bank among others.
“We participated in the sponsorship as Ministry of the East African Community, because were concerned with the integration of the region in general and financial markets in particular,” said Nathan Gashaija, the Director of Finance and Programs at the ministry.
