Illicit brew seized in church
NYAGATARE – Police, in collaboration with the Anglican Church, army and local leaders, Thursday, impounded over 170 cartons of illicit brew at Musenyi Anglican Church in Karangazi Sector.
According to Pastor James Rafiki Kalibwende, the suspects who were driving a minibus loaded with the contraband gained entry into the church’s premises and convinced a night guard to offer them room to hoard the consignment.
“Our guard refused to grant their request but the suspects went on to secretly hide them in church toilet. We later received information from our gatekeeper that many sacks were stored in the toilet,” he narrated.
According to Police, the cartons contained Suzie and Chief Waragi brands of the illicit liquor as well as vodka.
“The gate keeper is spiritual …we call upon other Christians to always act in the same manner to prevent our church from being defiled by such criminals,” the pastor advised.
Police said that the suspects are still on the run as they carry on with further investigations to track them down.
