Ruhengeri Diocese gets new bishop
Musanze - Bishop Dr. Vincent Harorimana has been appointed new Bishop of Ruhengeri Catholic Diocese. Bishop Alexis Habiyambere, has been acting as caretaker for the past five years.
The Bishop of the Rwanda Episcopal administration, Bishop Smaragde Mbonyintege, made this announcement after a declaration by Pope Benedict XVI.
Until recently, Bishop Harorimana had been the Rector of Nyundo Minor Seminary for the past12 years.
The newly appointed bishop said that in ministering to the people, “the right spirit lives in a good body”. This good spirit will then help in promoting good conduct and developmental activities within the diocese.
“We should use the resources we have, the mind and the body to make this world a better place to live in, to build our country, this is the spirit I come with,” he added.
Bishop Harorimana, who will be consecrated in March, replaces the Bishop Kizito Bahujemihigo, who was transferred to Kibungo Diocese in 2007.
Ruhengeri Diocese consists of 11 parishes.
