Pugilists step-up London Games preps
THE national boxing team has stepped up preps for the 2012 Olympic Games at Amahoro stadium. After watching the team in training, the head coach Gashugi Kananura is in buoyant mood ahead of the Games.
“Preparations are on-going and I have high hopes in the team,” he said.
“We have decided to have early preparations to make sure the guys are in the best possible shape for the London Games qualifiers.”
Some of the boxers Gashugi is counting on include light welter (64kg) Jean Maurice Bikorimana, featherweight (57kg) Salim Kwizera, light-fly (48kg) Haziza Matusi and the welterweight (69kg) pair of Theoneste Gakunzi and Siraha Nizeyimana.
The Africa Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to run from April 27- May 6 in Casablanca, Morocco.
Rwanda is yet to field a boxer in the Olympics.
