As a way of curbing the food shortage in East Africa, ministers responsible for agriculture in the member states, will today meet to discuss how to address the problem.

In an interview with Richard Owora, the Head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs at EAC, said the ministers would review the regional progress in agriculture as well as seek a solution to the perennial food shortage within the bloc.

 “The ministers will review the progress made in the sector towards the implementation of the council’s decisions and other issues of regional importance in the areas of agriculture and food security,” he said.

The ministerial meeting follows a session of senior officials and Permanent Secretaries of EAC that concluded yesterday, which was their third meeting of the Sectoral Council on Agriculture and Food Security.

At the opening of the session, the EAC Director for Productive Sector, Dr. Caleb Nyamajeje Weggoro, said the Sectoral Council was held at a time when the region was facing serious drought and food insecurity issues.
