KIGALI - Students and the staff of Mt Kenya University (MKU-Rwanda) yesterday visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre to pay tribute to the over 300,000 Genocide victims buried there.

At the site, the team was informed how the tragedy unfolded, its effect and measures the government had put in place to rebuild the country, besides ensuring a similar tragedy does not occur again.

During the visit, the director of MKU Rwanda campus, Prof. Tom Nyamache, said that irrespective of the country`s history, reconciliation would foster development.

“The national reconciliation drive is exceptional and as MKU, we are here to work together in rebuilding the country with focus on developing skills,” Nyamache said.

He also called upon students to fight against the Genocide ideology as a clear way of building a solid foundation of a country.

The head of students, Innocent Kayitare, urged the youth to be committed in everything they do to become good future leaders.
 
“As leaders of tomorrow, we have a task of looking back to identify any form of behaviour that could lead to Genocide,” Kayitare said.The students contributed Rwf 200,000 to the centre.
