Glamour at Rwanda Fashion Festival

The 2nd edition of Rwanda Fashion Festival was held at Kigali Serena Hotel on April.

It is one of the most influential international theme events in the Country, and since its introduction in 2010, the festival has been attracting regional and international top fashion designers and models.

This year, it included various theme activities, including photo shooting, visiting volcanoes and gorillas as well as Gisozi and Murambi Genocide memorial sites, and the National Museum of Rwanda.

The festival brought in crowds, mainly to see the fashion show and new design releases. There was a grand and attractive opening ceremony and an artistic evening performance at Serena.

After models strutted in latest fashions, artists Mani Martin and Rosette Karimba took the stage to entertain the audience. Also performing at the show were model and Tusker Project Fame 3 star, Christian among others.

Eight designers who showcased their collections were: Rwanda’s Rosalie Gicanda, Ally Rehmuttlah from Tanzania, Ali Dio of Senegal, France - based Cameroonian designer, Imane Ayissi, Lucy Rao (director of African Fashion Fair Festival) from Kenya, Adebayo Oriyomi of Nigeria and Kenya - based Indian fashion designer, Vaishali Morjaria.

The founder of Rwanda Fashion Festival and DADMAX Agency, Dady de Maximo Mwicira Mitali, also showcased his work.

Local female and male models, and eight others from Burundi and Kenya, treated the crowd to glamorous sights of prestigious styles on the runway.

Speaking at the event, Dady de Maximo thanked the sponsors and participants for making the event successful.
However, the event did not only focus on fashion show and performances but also even people, who contributed to promote culture through art, fashion, creativity and modeling, were given awards.

Denmark - based Rwandan model, Roxanne Hellevik, was honoured in the category of Culture and Fashion.
The show received a big media coverage, with several international networks, such as, M-NET (South Africa), STYLE TV (Nigeria), TV5 Monde, Trace TV and France 24 and Fashion Magazines all represented.
