About The New Times / The New Times Publications Sarl

Brief Back ground
Started in 1995, The New Times Publications SARL is a registered Rwandan private media outlet with hitherto publishes in English. It was established just less than years after the end of the 1994 Rwanda genocide and the return of over a million Rwanda refugees from mainly neighboring countries of Uganda , Burundi , Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC then Zaire ), Tanzania and Kenya . Many of these returnees were English speakers besides their native Kinyarwanda, a factor that could largely be attributed to the fact that TNT publishes in English. History shows that there had never been an English news paper in Rwanda before TNT.

Editorial
The Newspaper’s editorial is based on fair and balanced reporting without any confrontational tones, political or otherwise.

The New Times started as a simple paper publishing once in two weeks. In 1998 it started to publish a weekly newspaper and then in 1999 it started producing a bi-weekly publication until mid March 2004 when it increased the newspaper frequency to three times a week. At this time the paper had got a significant market share both within and outside the country.

In September 2005 TNT began producing the four editions a week until early April 2006 when it started producing a daily newspaper. Below is the Mission and Vision.

About New Times Online

New Times Online is the online edition of The New Times newspaper. It started in 2003. It is one of the most read newspaper website with Rwandan news content. The website basically reflects the content in the print edition, without necessarily translating into 100 percent reproduction of the print edition online.

All foreign content, for example, except that which is exclusively written for The New Times, is omitted from the online edition. This omission is justified by the desire to provide a product that is locally produced and is carefully packaged to suit the tastes of our primary target audience.

The website now hosts independently Sunday Times pages and Izuba Rirashe newspaper on  (http://www.izuba.org.rw)
